Except for cribbage, I’m not particularly a card player – poker confuses me, anything else I find boring – but I’ve found a card game that’s practically made for me.
Morbid Curiosity is the name, and it has two parts.
One set of cards (black) has a bunch of multiple-choice trivia questions. One of my favorites: What’s the difference between a graveyard and a cemetery?
A) there is no difference
B) a cemetery is over 100 years old
C) A graveyard adjoins a church
D) graveyards have fewer than 100 graves
Answer at the end of the post!
The other cards (white) are open-ended discussion questions. This one is exactly what we talked about last week. “Are funerals/memorials for the dead or the living? Would you go against the wishes of the deceased to tend to the needs of those left behind?”
Feel free to add your answer in the comments!
It’s super portable, so you can be the life AND death of any party or gathering you go to. I’ve written before about how fun it is to bring up the topic of death over Thanksgiving dinner; now you have the perfect excuse in hand.
It’s egalitarian, too: nobody wins or loses, and no one loses their shirt on a bet. Although you could have a penalty for a wrong answer, like those old drinking games, or put a dollar in the kitty and give the proceeds to charity.
Big thanks to my friend Neal who always finds me the greatest death presents, including this can for my ashes or compost. Now, where to put the can when I’m in it….
Answer: A graveyard adjoins a church, whereas a cemetery is a separate piece of land.
Thanks for explaining the difference! I didn't know.
Woot! I guessed the right answer :)
